Checks and Balances?

What ever happened to our constitutionally guaranteed system of “Checks and Balances”?  For the non-nation building Bush II administration, who didn’t want to hear anything about Osama Bin Laden or Al-Keidah when they took the oath of office, [whose only foreign policy goal was to find/invent any excuse to attack Iraq and Saddam Hussein,] to be so cautious about national security that they are willing to have the United States mirror the Soviet Union in  their “intelligence gathering” on citizens....  Give me a break!  The Bushies ignored intelligence on Bin Laden because it didn’t fit their predetermined goal of taking out Saddam, and now they used their own lack of foresight to justify gathering personal information on ordinary American citizens under the guise of terror prevention.  What the Bushies are doing is TERRIFYING, and any citizen who thinks that they are so pure that nothing can be gotten on them need to recall the words of King Solomon in Ecclesiastes (7:20): “For there is not a just man upon earth, that does good, and does not sin.”  The meaning of this verse is not that there are not just and righteous people on earth, but rather that even just and righteous people have made mistakes.  Ever gone 5 miles per hour over the speed limit?  If you have, then you might not be an “innocent citizen” who is protected from data mining; rather you are a criminal, and the Bushies want to know what else you have been doing!

Bloger Bio

These Blogs [1] are my attempt to vent my own frustrations, and/or educate anyone bored enough with their own life to have the time to read my thoughts and opinions on any particular subject, and/or interested enough in my thoughts and opinions that they might be influenced by those said thoughts and opinions. I am a convert to Orthodox/Torah Observant Judaism. I was raised in a Christian family, but between problems I had with Christian Theology [2], and the fact that Charles Darwin and Omni Magazine made more sense to me that Christianity, I was ripe for a change in my life [however, I was not ready to jump from one "faith" into another "faith" where I would yet again be subjected to "blind faith"]. After much research and introspection, I made the plunge and converted. This happened almost eight years ago. Most of my thoughts on Judaism and Christianity can be gleaned from my web-site, tumms.org.
Regarding my politics: I voted twice for Ronald Regan, and once for Bush I [thus I could have been categorized as a staunch conservative]. But when Bush I failed to take his 93% approval rating and tackle the pressing problems of this country [such as Social Security, Welfare, et al.], and after what the Republicans did to President Clinton over a private sexual indiscretion, I evolved into a committed Independent with Democratic leanings. None of us, NONE OF US, is so perfect that if someone spent 60 million dollars interviewing everyone we had ever known, or investigating every aspect of our lives, and published the results on the front page of the New York Times, that we would not be embarrassed.
Regarding my Job: I am an Air Traffic Controller, and as a convert to Orthodox Judaism i have been through two different EEOC [Equal Employment Opportunity Commission] processes over my rights to be both a religious Jew and control airplanes.
Thus, between my religion, my politics, and my profession, I have quite a bit to vent.

Reader beware, but Reader will not be bored!

On this blog we will vent our frustrations on any and all subjects in general, with the caveat that the author is a Torah Observant Jew who seeks only that TRUTH be recognized and accepted by Jews and non-Jews alike.
